Using the Internet to your advantage. Computer use and Disabilities.

Image
Working towards this presentation was quite fun I mean I not only got to learn a whole lot about the struggles that disabled individuals go through on their day to day basis, but i also was able to discover how today in this day and age computers have served as a tool in order to assist them or their day to day routines in order to make them more of a part of society. I thought the subject was overall very intriguing and i started to browse the internet to find more about it, and i stumbled upon quite a few articles that provided me a lot of introspective on the subject and even showed me some real life stories from disabled individuals who have used the internet and computer use to their advantage. Many inspiring stories were taken from here and so i decided to work on my script right after. we are group #3 so we had a few days left for us to present and was able to observe on what and what not to do at my presentation, which i used to my advantage. While i was putting together my s

Virtual World & It's Impact (presentation 2) by Isabelle Greiner

With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our worlds were flipped upside down. Suddenly, we became more attached to devices, I know I did. Depending on them for work and/or school, entertainment, and communication. A reliance that carries on even nearly two years after its commencement. While the internet helped us stay connected (no pun intended), it also brought about issues especially related to mental health.  In our second presentation, we delve into the topic of mental health, ways to cope, seek help, and more. My group stuck with the technological perspective, in investigating how the internet both positively and negatively impacted those with disabilities. While John introduced the benefits and disadvantages to virtual learning, I expanded by talking about students’ and staff's perspectives of their virtual learning experiences. Heyner introduced how to use the internet to your advantage, while J.P. talked about virtual resources to help you excel in the virtual classroom. F

J.P.'s Fantastic Blog Post about Symposium

Image
"Symposium" is a funny word. If I were to be honest, I do not really know what it means, so let us consult the wonders of Google: I find it particularly telling that I have attended two symposiums— one at the Miami Dade School of Science to present my cryptocurrency research , and one to discuss digital tools for disabilities— yet I did not know until now that "symposium" is Greek for "drink together." Well, in our symposium, we did drink together: from the fountain of knowledge that is sharing vital information with each other. Sorry, was that too cheesy? Too on-the-nose, forced, or clich é? I'm just being honest. The topics of our symposium needed to be discussed. They included discourse on mental health and the societal perception of mental health. Oftentimes one hears of how mental health is stigmatized, underrepresented, and unprioritized, especially in a society focused on work and monetary profit. There seems little time for leisure as we all

Computer Usage and Disabilities

My first symposium experience   Our second presentation was announced soon after our first presentation which was based on the book. Each group was responsible for teaching a specific lesson to the rest of the class. Now moving forward our class was tasked with a mental health/ disability presentation. Everyone was assigned a different topic and our group decided to do computer use and disabilities. After picking the topic each group member went ahead and started to select their topics. I went ahead and decided to primarily focus on the Advantages and disadvantages of virtual learning. Isabelle decided to focus on student and staff perspectives, Heyner did use the internet to your advantage, Jacques did digital resources, and Joe did economic disparity and emotional handicaps. A few classes later we had Corrinne came into the class to help everyone with their presentation. When Corrinne finally joined our breakout room, we had a lot of questions regarding our topic.

Group Presentations

The importance of public speech is often overlooked. By popular belief, the skills learned in a public speaking class can only be utilized in a setting where an individual needs to give a speech in front of a large group and could not be further from the truth. The majority of the lessons learned throughout a public speaking class apply to almost all aspects of day-to-day life; from school to work to even your personal life. Being able to understand all aspects of speech as well as being able to communicate effectively without any trouble is a skill helpful to anyone. Since I am working in the banking industry a large portion of my job consists of finding the best way to cater to my client's needs and desires therefore the ability to communicate with clients is essential. I am very excited to improve my communication skills and learn tips on how to present to an audience better.  Over the course of the last few weeks in our public speaking class we have been working and present

Chapters 7-9

My Experience Working on a group presentation about presentations. by; Heyner Loaisiga Our task as a group was to present chapters 7 through 9 which in short was to go into depth about which were about; Delivering speeches, Choosing your words and about Visual resources and presentation technology. My personal task was to present two subtopics from chapter 8; the first one being How can you improve the clarity of your language use and How can you improve the style of your Language use. This two subtopics within chapter 8 had the key word of Improve and polish your clarity and language use during a full on presentation. Going more in depth into the topic of Improving the clarity of your language use we first learn to: Understand levels of  Abstraction: In this subtopic we focus on cutting to the chase, we should avoid broad terms or words that contain concepts hard to grasp or comprehend, you sorta need to find a balance between abstract and concrete words. Understand differences betw

How To Improve Your Presentation Skills by Isabelle Greiner

Source:GalChimia There are many aspects that come into play when organizing a presentation. From visuals to speeches, all small details come together to assure a prominent delivery. While my team’s presentation focus was geared around language, and aids to help present content, we learned from incorporating other groups’ lessons into our own. That was the good thing about being the third group to present: we benefited from learning other aspects of presenting from previous teams that help me in my performance.  Source:BCIT News 1. Know Your Topic Make sure you research and gather as much information about your topic as you can. Listeners are looking to you to have all the knowledge and answer all their questions on the topic. Even if you feel like you are not, pretend you are the expert in all things related to your presentation topic.  Like they say: fake it ‘till you make it…but we’ll come back to this later on in this post.  As we learned from my teammate John, delivery is very cruc
